Flat by the Kaczawa
Legnica sits at about 113 m above sea level, where the Czarna Woda flows into the Kaczawa — there are no long climbs. A bike, e-bike or scooter can be rented or bought.
A4 to the south, 9–17 parking zone
The A4 motorway passes south of the city, and ul. Jaworzyńska is one way out towards the A4 and S3. A bypass meant to take DK94 through traffic out of the centre has yet to be built. Paid parking runs Mon–Fri 9:00–17:00: the first hour is 3 zł in zone I and 2 zł in zone II.
Tarninów, Piekary and old barracks
Legnica covers 56 km² and has no formal districts, but the old names live on. Tarninów and Przybków lie south of the centre, with the blocks of Piekary and the Kopernika estate to the east. Many addresses are former barracks on ul. Poznańska, Słubicka or Myrka, turned into flats after 1993.
Galeria Piastów and the Rynek
Galeria Piastów, opened in 2006, stands at ul. Najświętszej Marii Panny 9 — the main street leading to the Rynek. Around the market square, by the Old Town Hall and the Śledziówki houses, shops and restaurants have operated since the 19th century, making it the second key pick-up area.
Copper smelter and a Soviet past
KGHM's Legnica copper smelter is at ul. Złotoryjska 194 — it produced its first copper on 24 December 1953, and the Copper Museum has been in the centre since 1962. From 1945 to 1993 the city hosted the headquarters of the Soviet Northern Group of Forces, hence all the former barracks.
