Since October 2017, through traffic has skirted the town to the south on a 7.6 km bypass on the DK20 (2+1, four junctions, a 122 m rail viaduct). Before that, a peak-hour crossing took up to 45 minutes. The DW214 joins at the Kościerzyna Południe junction, and rail lines 201 and 211 run through town.
A compact town of 16 km²
Kościerzyna covers 15.83 km², so most runs are a few kilometres long. The street grid is set by the Rynek (market square), with eight streets leading out of its corners. The big block estate is Osiedle Tysiąclecia on ul. Kartuska — about 2,100 residents in 23 buildings.
The Rynek and the old brewery
The heart of town is the Rynek, with tenements from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, a fountain and a figure of Remus; the 1843 town hall houses the Kościerzyna Land Museum. Nearby, on ul. Słodowa, the old brewery is now home to shops — worth knowing the access routes and bike spots.
Museums and Kashubian lakes
