Olkusz for couriers: the DK94 rebuild, the Rynek, the mining past
Glovo and Uber Eats in the old lead-mining town
The town grew rich on lead and silver, and in 1579 King Stephen Bathory founded a mint here. Today Olkusz has 31,538 residents (as of 31.12.2025), and you deliver food with Glovo — slot-free since 14 September 2026 — and Uber Eats. One settlement partner lets you run both apps.
The Jura outside, short runs inside
Olkusz sits in the Krakow-Czestochowa Jura, about 10 km from the Bledow Desert, and covers 25.65 km², so runs around town are mostly short — a bike or e-bike will do. You can also get to your shift on the inter-municipal bus network linking Olkusz with Bukowno, Boleslaw and Klucze.
DK94 being rebuilt, ul. Rabsztyńska closed
Strabag is rebuilding 4.4 km of the DK94 from ul. Staromiejska to ul. Pakuska: six junctions, two underpasses and a two-level interchange at ul. Centralna, Kościuszki and Rabsztyńska. Since 20 May 2026 ul. Rabsztyńska has been closed, with a detour via ul. Sikorki, for at least 18 months.
Stary Olkusz, Skalskie, Piaski and Kamyk
Beyond the centre with its medieval street plan, the town takes in former villages added in 1973: Stary Olkusz, Skalskie, Piaski, Kamyk, Stoczki, Kocotówka, Dodatki Pomorskie and parts of Olewin and Sieniczno. Runs out to these edges take longer than trips around the Rynek.
The Rynek, the pedestrian street and the new BIG Olkusz
In the centre you pick up around the Rynek — one of the largest market squares in southern Poland — and on the pedestrian stretch of ul. Króla Kazimierza Wielkiego. On 22 October 2026 the BIG Olkusz retail park with Kaufland opens on ul. Sławkowska.
After the mine: museums and new lakes
The Olkusz-Pomorzany zinc and lead mine stopped extraction in 2020. With the pumps switched off, water is filling the sinkholes — a lake near Olkusz covered about 31 ha in early 2025 and is still growing. The mining past lives on in the Podziemny Olkusz exhibition and in Silver Park with its old mining machines.
