The platform work directive deadline is 2 December. What about Poland's law?
EU countries must implement the platform work directive (2024/2831) by 2 December 2026. In early November Poland's law had not been passed yet — the rules for couriers have not changed.

Where the law stands
- The draft was prepared by the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy. Public consultations ended on 25 August 2026.
- The government planned to adopt the draft in Q4 2026; after that it goes to the Sejm.
- The law is to take effect one month after it is published.
What the draft says
- Presumption of employment: it is enough for a courier to show that the platform directs and controls the work — then the platform has to prove it is not an employment relationship.
- A labour inspector will be able to establish an employment relationship by decision. The platform has 14 days to object during an inspection.
- A human, not an algorithm, is to make the final decision on blocking an account or ending the cooperation.
- Platforms must inform about systems that automatically monitor work and make decisions.
- Fines of up to 60,000 zł. The platform is to be jointly liable with intermediaries such as fleet partners.
Slovakia already has a law
Slovakia passed its law on 23 September 2026 and published it on 30 October; it takes effect on 2 December — on the directive deadline.
What it means for couriers
The 2 December date alone does not change your contract. The new rules apply only after the law is passed and published. The directive also does not mean every courier automatically gets an employment contract.
