Courier in winter: how to prepare for work in the cold and after dark
From November it gets dark earlier, it rains more often and roads can be slippery. Here is a list of things worth preparing before your winter shifts.
- Flexible hours — you choose when to ride
- No commission on Glovo, Uber Eats and Pyszne with our partner
- Civil contract (umowa zlecenie) — no company needed
You register through a settlement partner (fleet), not directly in the app.
Clothing
- Dress in layers: a thermal top, a fleece and a waterproof, windproof jacket.
- Rain trousers — wet trousers are the fastest way to get cold.
- Touchscreen gloves and a thin cap under your helmet or a neck warmer.
- Shoes with thick soles and spare socks in your bag.
Visibility after dark
- After dark a bike must have a front and rear light switched on and a red rear reflector.
- A vest or jacket with reflective elements — drivers will spot you sooner.
- Check before every shift that your lights are charged.
Bike and scooter
- Check the brakes and tyres — braking distance is longer on wet, cold surfaces.
- E-scooter and e-bike batteries drain faster in the cold. Keep the battery warm and charge it indoors.
- Slow down on bends, pedestrian crossings, tram tracks and leaves — the most slippery spots.
Phone
- Phone batteries drain faster in the cold — take a power bank and a short cable.
- A handlebar mount with a rain cover keeps your phone dry.
Bag and breaks
- A thermal bag or backpack keeps the temperature and protects the order from rain. In November Pyszne gives a thermal backpack for orders in seven cities — details.
- Take a thermos with a hot drink and take short breaks somewhere warm.
Health first
If you are freezing, soaked or it is very slippery — cut the shift short. Your health matters more than a few extra orders.
