Pulawy sits on the east bank of the Vistula at about 115 m above sea level. The main climb is the escarpment topped by the Czartoryski palace and park. Bike paths join the riverside promenade, and the John Paul II Bridge takes bikes too.
The S12 skirts the centre, a 1934 bridge in town
Through traffic takes the S12 bypass with the John Paul II Bridge (1,038 m, 2008); since 2018 the expressway continues to Kurów, where it joins the S17 to Lublin. The steel Mościcki Bridge dates from 1934. In March 2025 central parking was free, though the city was preparing a paid zone.
From Niwa to Włostowice
The city covers 50.49 km². Orders go to Niwa (with its brine tower), Gościńczyk, the Norwida, Kołłątaja and Sienkiewicza estates, Górna-Kolejowa, Piaski and Mokradki, and to Włostowice, part of the city since 1934. Pulawy wants to annex 1,070 ha from the rural gmina — no earlier than 2027.
Galeria Zielona and the Piaskowa market hall
Galeria Zielona at ul. Lubelska 2 opened in 2006 and has about 90 units — the main pickup point in the centre. Its car park has been paid since 2025 (2 hours free for shoppers). The market hall stands on ul. Piaskowa, and the main axes are ul. Piłsudskiego (the old Lublin road) and al. Królewska.
A town of chemistry and research
Since its first ammonia synthesis in 1966, the Zakłady Azotowe Puławy plant has made fertilisers, melamine and caprolactam. Add five research institutes, including IUNG and the National Veterinary Research Institute, and the Temple of the Sibyl, Poland's first museum (1801).
